Needless to day, you hadn't slept well at all that night. You were still steaming about the nerve that man had, kicking you off campus. It was neither his right or responsibility to remove you from your place of work. Of course, you had been caught snooping through his private papers. However, after his reaction to catching you at his desk, you were done making excuses for him. He was an unpleasant person no matter how hard anyone tried to pass it off as him being uptight, private, overworked, antisocial, having a headache, or anything else that you'd pulled out of your book of excuses.

The files in his office bothered you, and it wasn't just the fact that they were strewn about the place like a tornado had just passed through either. It was all those kids that he had listed on them. No diagnosis. No treatment that you could make out through his chicken scratch handwriting. And yet, none of the students that appeared in them had been present since the day the records had been made.

You had to admit that you'd passed the first one off as something normal, a particularly bad illness or the student moving or switching schools. After viewing the rest of them, the story had changed. You were beginning to get very suspicious of Doctor Iwamine.

It still seemed a bit ridiculous to you, getting so nervous and jumpy about the man. It seemed unrealistic to suspect him of anything out of the ordinary when he was right under the headmaster's and the rest of the staff's noses the entire time he was on campus. Yet you couldn't help but feel that there was something seriously not right going on in his infirmary.

It was no longer a childish curiosity or some petty need to pay him back for his rudeness that was driving you to snoop. You had to get into that office. You had to find the truth, and it wouldn't be long before you got your chance. The sports festival was today. The infirmary would have to keep it's doors unlocked all day in case something were to happen to one of the students.

You were unsure of the exact arrangements, but you had a pretty good guess that Sakazaki and the rest of the medical team would be the ones out and about, and Iwamine would be staying in the infirmary. That might complicate things a bit. After he caught you snooping through his things once, he was even more likely to stay put. You'd have to wait for him to leave, if he left at all. If he didn't you'd have to find some way to make him leave. You were determined that this was going to be the day that you got to the bottom of your suspicions, and once you made your mind up about something, that was it.

When you arrived on campus, the staff was still rushing about with the last minute preparations. The students that had signed up to help out with preparing for the festival had arrived early, and were likewise running too and fro in a hurry.

School wouldn't let in for another half hour, which would give you time to snoop about while things were less crowded and see if you could find out the arrangement for the medical team. Your eyes scanned the crowd for Sakazaki. If anyone could clear this up for you, it would be him. He'd have no reason to mention any inquiries you directed at him to Iwamine. In fact, unless something happened on the fields, it was unlikely that the two would have much contact at all today.
“Sakazaki-san!” you called, upon noticing the unmistakeable head of light blue hair.

The third year turned towards you, and you immediately waved him over. He strolled over, still looking as relaxed as ever even with all the commotion going on around him. “Oi, _______-san?” he winked, “How may I be of assistance to a foreign beauty such as yourself?”

You rolled your eyes, smiling slightly to yourself. “Nanaki asked me to check up on the medical team's preparations. I didn't get a chance to do so yesterday. Iwamine-san disappeared before I arrived.” Of course, that was a total lie. But you were hardly going to use an excuse like 'hey, Sakazaki. Where's Shuu? I need to kick him in his manhood for tossing me off campus yesterday'.

“Oh, is that it?” Yuuya faked a pout, “____-san, you wound me! And here I thought that you wished to confess your love!” Sakazaki quickly straightened himself out. You were used to his dramatics by now, and actually found it a bit hard to take him seriously any more. “Only joking! They're coming along. I haven't seen Iwamine-san this morning, but I've got it under control.”

“You haven't seen him?” you asked, “But isn't it hard getting along without the professional to help you?”

Yuuya laughed a bit. “It's nothing new for me to have to take care of the rest of the team,” he replied, “Iwamine-sensei's always cooped up in his office. Unless I'm working with him in there, I don't see much of him. In fact, he'll probably spend the whole festival cooped up in there. He's not one for big parties or crowds.”

You figured as much, but the confirmation made you feel a bit better. “So, have you looked for him in his office?”

“Looked twice,” Yuuya replied, “I saw neither head nor tail of him, “Why? If you want to hear the report from him, I could always tell him that you were loo--”

“No!” you interrupted, “I mean-- You know, he and I don't really get along very well. That's why I was asking you about the preparations, and about him. I wanted to know how many times I was going to have to duck today.”

“I see,” the teen nodded, “Well, if he follows his normal pattern, you won't have to duck at all. Will that be all, mon amie?”

“Yes, that'll be it,” you confirmed, “I'll let you get back to work.”

“Alright then.” He turned and began heading back to the rest of the medical team. He really was a good kid, even if he was a bit of a player.

You smiled to yourself and turned towards the entrance to the building. If Shuu hadn't returned to his office by now, this would be the perfect time to do a bit of digging around. With any luck, he'd driven off campus to get supplies.

The infirmary was empty when you arrived, just as you'd been told. Now, where to start? You could start at his desk and try to read his notes, but that could take a while and he might notice that his place of work had been disturbed. You should start with the basic things that wouldn't be as likely to tip him off that someone had been in here.

“Check the cabinets,” you mumbled to yourself, approaching the row of drawers and cabinets that lined the wall. You started at the top cabinets above the counter. Nothing out of the ordinary so far. There were just the normal supplies and bottles of medicine, some of which you didn't recognize. Then again, it didn't really mean anything if you couldn't recognize what was in the cabinets. You weren't trained in medicine, after all.

“Nope,” you mumbled, moving down the drawers below the counter. Once again, nothing strange at all. The bottom row of cabinets was all that was left. You knelt down and began to pull them open, closing them back upon discovering that there was nothing to see there. What the hell were you doing? You were beginning to get the feeling that you were just being stupid.

You pulled open the door to the last cabinet and peered inside. Nothing. There was nothing to confirm your suspicions in any of these cabinets. You'd have to move on to the desk. It seemed like a more likely place anyway, but it didn't hurt to make sure you covered everything.

You gripped the edge of the counter and started to climb to your feet, when a small sound from the hallway caught your attention. It was very faint. The small scuffle of a footstep or the flapping of papers being shifted. Your sense of hearing usually wasn't that acute, but you were nervous, so you were listening. And it was extremely quiet inside the building with everyone busy outside.

With no other option to turn to, you quickly shifted some things about in the last cabinet to make room for yourself, climbed in, and shut the door, leaving a small crack for air. It was dark in there, despite the crack in the door, and it was uncomfortably cramped. You tried your best to calm yourself down. Panicked breathing would be heard and immediately cause whoever was approaching to check your hiding spot.

Iwamine entered quietly, a clipboard tucked under his arm. He'd approached you from behind and scared the living daylights out of you before, but now that you were watching him and could notice from your place of observation that he really didn't make much noise when he walked, it was even creepier.

He silently approached his desk and sat, flipping through the papers that were clipped to the board and making notes here and there. He was absorbed in his work, and didn't seem to have noticed that anything was amiss yet. Unfortunately, if he really was going to be in his office for as long as Sakazaki said, you couldn't very well just push open the door and jump out of the cabinet. You'd probably give the man a heart attack! And, worse yet, you'd be in some deep crap. You were already under his radar enough as it was.

“Hmm... that's no good,” he mumbled to himself, still in the process of scribbling notes.

You shifted a bit inside the cabinet, trying to get a better look at him though the crack you'd made. Part of you wished his desk was closer so you could see what he was working on so intently. The sensible part, on the other hand, was glad that he was all the way across the room. You'd be less likely to be noticed, the further away from you he was.

The doctor pushed his chair back and crossed the room. He began looking for something on the top of his cabinet. Don't move... you thought to yourself, Stay still. Don't make a sound.

“It's no good at all when I think I have some peace and quiet and there's a mouse hiding in my cabinet,” he grumbled, yanking the door to your hiding spot open, “Hello, miss _____. Comfortable?”

“Oh... um... Doctor Iwamine,” you stammered, “I was just--”

“Snooping,” he finished, “You were just snooping. As always.” He grabbed you roughly by the arm and dragged you out of the cabinet and to your feet. “A little respect for my privacy, is that too much to ask?” he scolded.

The doctor steered you towards the door, pushing you out into the hallway. “You're not needed here, miss ______. Why don't you join the others outside? It's a lovely day.”

The door slammed shut and you heard the click of the lock on the other side. He'd likely open back up when the festival started, but you were certain that you wouldn't be coming back that day. Now he was on higher alert than ever. There had to be another way to get the information you needed.
Finally, I get around to the new chapter! Enjoy!
