100 Themes 2: At the Amusement Park

Modern Hyrule wasn't the first place she wanted to be. In fact, on a list of places she'd like to be at the moment, the park was somewhere holding on for dear life at the very bottom, if it even held a place on the list at all. For another Zelda fan, this park would probably be the best thing since sliced bread. However, for Ruby this place held too many memories. Some that were too outstanding to allow to escape her as well as some that she would really prefer to forget.

This was the place that had brought the gang closer together, the place that had brought Lya into the group permanently, and the place where their adventure had begun. Yes, the remarkable adventure, which was neither something the mage could forget, nor ever wished to.

However, to relate such a place of lighthearted pleasure as an amusement park with her current less than chipper emotional state, it was also the place where she had first met him. It wasn't as if they had talked the first time, during that ride on the Spirit Train a year ago.  She had been looking for Kevin, and the boy with the elf-like ears had been sitting next to his purple clad companion with his arms crossed over his chest in a moody fashion. They hadn't spoken at all. Not a single word.

In the time following that, the time when he stayed with her, there had been nothing pleasant to show for. Many a row was initiated over simple matters and they would have sooner torn each other's heads off than looked at one another.

The previous information standing as it did, the feeling was quite the opposite now that she made her way through Modern Hyrule. Towards the end of their journey, they'd been civil with each other. Well, almost civil. It was strange how one could transition from wanting a person out of their sight as promptly as possible to descending into that tugging feeling that said they should still be there. The same feeling that loved to play the “you should have” game. “You should have gotten to know him better.” “You should have kept your temper with him.” “You should have been willing to listen to him.” And then amongst all the 'should have', one negative. “You shouldn't have let him go back to Hyrule.”

The mage trudged her way through the park, her eyes glancing about occasionally, searching for a familiar face. It was a hopeless hope, but it was always good to hope in some form, even if it was a futile thing. Ruby had always been one to fly on hope. And one to fall hard upon being shot down.

Back and forth the brown eyes wandered, searching for the familiar dark tunic, the hair that was so pitch black, it was almost a deep purple in the sunlight, or the blue eyes that could freeze one straight to the core. Nothing. Nothing ever surfaced, and it was a very likely thing that nothing ever would.

The teen rubbed her eyes. It was getting that time of year that the trees would begin to release that wretched yellow powder that stuffed her nose and made her eyes burn. That was why they were burning. Nothing else, just the pollen.

The black tunic appeared out of air. She didn't remember seeing it earlier. She didn't even know if this person had been at the park earlier. The sight of it made something inside her jump, like the jolt you get from a park ride when it comes to a stop. He was so close. So close. She could reach out and touch him.

Her hand moved forward, seemingly of it's own accord. However, the girl it was attached to made absolutely no conscious effort to halt the motion as the pale, slender fingers wrapped around the shoulder.

The turn was a slow, somewhat uncertain motion as the boy turned to face her. His face was confused, and his brown eyes regarded her in an odd fashion. “Can I help you?” he asked.

Quickly, the mage snatched her hand away, flushing with embarrassment as her previous emotion faded and was replaced with a sense of crushing disappointment. “I-I'm sorry!” she stammered, “I-I thought you were... someone else.”

She turned and ran. Past the rides. Past the costumed workers. Past the gates of Modern Hyrule. And she swore to herself that she would never return again.
I had a little trouble thinking up things to base these on, so I'm stealing from the 100 themes challenge. It's actually working out pretty well.

This was point commished by :iconpiezelle: It's part 1/3. I intend to finish the other two parts of the commission this week.

Part one: RubyXShadow
Part two: LyaXGreen
Part three: GingerXBlue

And there you have it, folks!

I do not own Legend of Zelda. I do however, own Modern Hyrule and Ruby.
